3. Logistics and Planning

  • Students: During school, laptops are for Teacher-Directed, School related work ONLY.
  • Discuss Rollout and how we will schedule classes.
    • Student logins and syncing - students must change their passwords before they can use the laptop
    • We need at least an hour to go over syncing/rules and procedures before giving students the laptops
    • You need to decide: Each 8th grade teacher will have a cart of laptops in his/her _?_ period class (6th grade: 1st period; 7th grade: 9th period).
    • The Rollout will happen during your core classes. You must be present to hear what we tell the students.
    • During Roll-out, and at least one other time during the year, Liz and/or Paula will meet with students to remind students of their responsibilities.

  • Laptop Procedures:
    • Students keep laptops with them at all times or place it in a locked locker or a cabinet (Art and P.E.).
    • Passing periods... time management
    • Student computer problems: Help is available during Advisory or before/after school; try not to send them during class periods.
    • Liz, Paula and Matt offices accessible through the Library
    • Technical Assistance: Please do not email Matt for technical assistance. Vern has asked that you email Liz. We will look over help requests and send those to Matt that we need him to handle. We do not want Matt stopped in the halls or pulled off task. He still has large projects to finish that affect many users.
    • Consequences for damage: Loaner laptop -> loss of overnight privileges -> use desktop computer in classroom -> loss of all privileges
    • Student behavior issues - how will your team deal with these?
    • During Advisory the laptops are not to be used to entertain the students.
    • Bandwidth Issues: YouTube, TeacherTube, GoogleEarth, Streaming music and video
    • Students need to be reminded that they must be responsible for their use of their laptop and the network.

  • What is on your students' computers? Review programs
